YIN YOGA CROATIA
Yin Yoga Teacher Training

Module 1

Functional anatomy, skeletal variation and the foundations of Yin Yoga

Andrija in a Yin Yoga posture

Duration: 50 hours
Certification: Yoga Alliance Continuing Education (YACEP)

The first module centres on Paul Grilley’s functional approach to yoga, with particular emphasis on skeletal variation, individual anatomical differences and an understanding of tension and compression.

Through theoretical lectures, anatomical analysis and practical work, we explore how bone structure, the shape of joint surfaces and the properties of soft tissues influence the possibilities and limitations of movement.

Rather than adapting the body to a predetermined shape of an asana, we learn to adapt the asana to the individual’s actual structure and needs.

The training covers the fundamental principles of Yin Yoga, functional analysis of postures, an understanding of how different tissues are loaded, and methods for safe and meaningful practice. Particular attention is given to distinguishing aesthetic and functional approaches to yoga and developing the ability to observe, analyse and teach independently.

What makes this approach distinctive?

The particular value of this module lies in an approach to anatomy that goes beyond the usual study of muscles, joints and their functions. The study of skeletal variation and Paul Grilley’s functional approach offer a different understanding of the human body, in which individual anatomical differences become the starting point for understanding movement, rather than deviations from an imagined ideal posture.

Grilley’s functional approach is among the most popular anatomical approaches in contemporary yoga teacher education, and its principles are also applied in many other yoga styles. His anatomical illustrations and educational materials are also used in numerous fitness trainer education programmes.

The knowledge gained in this module therefore extends beyond Yin Yoga. It provides a foundation for understanding individual possibilities and limitations of movement, applicable to different yoga styles, mobility work and other forms of physical practice.

Who is the training for?

The training is intended for yoga teachers of all styles, aspiring teachers, fitness trainers and committed practitioners who wish to deepen their understanding of anatomy, movement and a functional approach to yoga.

Previous experience of Yin Yoga is helpful but is not a prerequisite for participation.

Certification

On completing the training, participants receive a certificate confirming completion of the 50-hour module. The training is delivered within the Yoga Alliance Continuing Education (YACEP) programme, and registered yoga teachers may record the relevant continuing education hours in accordance with Yoga Alliance rules.
