Andrija Bosanac-Schroetter is a yoga teacher, educator and pioneer of structured Yin Yoga teacher education in the former Yugoslav region. He has led specialised workshops and masterclasses since 2015 and yoga teacher training programmes since 2020, grounded in Paul Grilley’s functional approach to yoga.

In 2003, he travelled to India for the first time. During his stay at Sathya Sai Baba’s ashram, he encountered ancient Eastern teachings, Vedic texts and various philosophical traditions, and attended his first classical hatha yoga class. The interest awakened there gradually grew far beyond the boundaries of any single tradition. Through studying Vedanta, Buddhism, Zen, Daoism, Sufism and other philosophical and contemplative traditions, he continues to explore different understandings of the human being, consciousness and human experience.

His yoga practice developed through the dynamic styles of Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Power Yoga and, from 2011, through Yin Yoga, which gradually became one of the central areas of his work. Over the years, he has studied with numerous international teachers, including Sandra Đ. Bianco, Sebastian Pucelle, Murielle Burellier, Jo Phee and Joe Barnett. His personal studies with Paul and Suzee Grilley hold a particular place in his education; their functional approach to yoga has become one of the guiding principles of his teaching.

His educational work now extends across Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Austria. Through workshops, professional seminars and yoga teacher training programmes, he gives particular attention to understanding individual anatomical differences, functional anatomy and the biomechanics of movement.

At the heart of his teaching is a functional approach to yoga, which starts from the fact that human bodies differ and that the same posture cannot have an identical function or shape for everyone. Traditional Chinese medicine, meridian theory, meditation and the philosophical foundations of Eastern traditions are areas of longstanding interest. In his work, he brings contemporary knowledge of anatomy and physiology into dialogue with traditional systems for understanding the body and human experience, while respecting their different starting points.

Alongside his Yin Yoga Teacher Training programmes, he has developed Dragon Dance Teacher Training, a comprehensive 200-hour educational programme that brings together dynamic vinyasa practice, functional anatomy, the biomechanics of movement and a meridian-based approach grounded in the principles of traditional Chinese medicine.

Alongside his longstanding work in yoga, Andrija is an academically trained musician and professional trombonist at Zagreb’s Komedija City Theatre. His relationship with the body and movement began in childhood through martial arts and later developed through Argentine tango. Music, dance and yoga thus hold an important place in his life, each with its own distinctive qualities and with experiences that complement one another.

In addition to music and yoga, he is involved in literature and writing. Alongside his literary work, he is currently working on specialist books devoted to yoga, its philosophical foundations, anatomy and practice methodology. His interest in different fields of knowledge does not arise from a desire to reduce them to a common denominator, but from an effort to understand their distinctive qualities and the possibilities they offer.

In teaching, he does not assume that there is one correct shape for a posture or one practice suitable for everyone. Understanding the person practising matters more to him than the shape their body takes.
